Speculate on Golf

China is home to some of the biggest Golf tournaments in the world, this includes:

  • the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai,
  • TCL Classic in Sanya on Hainan Island,
  • the Volvo China Open
  • the BMW Asian Open

Golf may not be as popular as Football, but fans certainly pay attention when the world's best golfers play in these events.

Zhang Lian-wei is said to be China's version of Tiger Woods in terms of popularity. Zhang was the first Chinese golfer to win the European Tour (2003). The following year, he was the first Chinse golfer to compete in the Masters Tournament, one of Golf's four major championships.

The most common type of golf bet involves picking the outright winner of a tournament. Typically a sports book will list 30 or more individual golfers along with a field (all others) option, at various odds.

Another popular form of golf betting involves matchup propositions, in which two golfers are paired against each other in a head-to-head wager, with a betting line on each golfer set by the odds maker. The golfer with the better (lower) score wins the match-up. (If one golfer continues play in the tournament after his opponent misses the cut, the golfer who continues play wins the matchup.)
